cannot reply to my editor's question

I cannot reply to a question asked by my editor.
If I click the 'go to your account' link in the email (with Subject: "You have a new message from Wordy") the system wants me to log in as an editor - but I'm a client!
Logging in as a client I see no message and no reply option.
Note. My editor closed/finished the job at the same time as she posted the question. Maybe that's a clue?
